Weighted Grade Calculator
Calculate class grade using weighted assignment categories.
Grade Categories & Weights
Enter your percentage grade and syllabus weight for each assessment category.
Sum of category weights: 100%. Weights add up to 100%.
| Category | Grade × Weight | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Homework | 90% × 20% | 18.00 |
| Tests / Exams | 85% × 50% | 42.50 |
| Final Exam | 95% × 30% | 28.50 |
Calculate your weighted class average when different assignment categories (e.g., Homework 20%, Tests 50%, Final 30%) carry different percentage weights.
Multiply your average percentage grade in each category by its weight decimal fraction.
Add up the weighted contribution points from all categories.
If total weights equal 100%, the sum is your weighted score. If less than 100%, divide by total weight ratio to normalize.
Weighted points = (90×0.20) + (85×0.50) + (95×0.30) = 18 + 42.5 + 28.5 = 89.00%. Total weight = 100%.
Total points = (92×0.20) + (80×0.25) + (88×0.25) = 18.4 + 20 + 22 = 60.4 points out of 70% weight. Normalized score = 60.4 ÷ 0.70 = 86.29%.
How This Compares
This calculator applies different percentage weights per category (homework, tests, final, etc.), matching how most real syllabi grade a course. If every assignment in your class counts equally toward a simple points-earned-over-points-possible total, the plain Grade Calculator is the more direct tool.
- 1Add category names (e.g., Homework, Quizzes, Midterms, Projects).
- 2Enter your average percentage score earned in each category.
- 3Enter the percentage weight assigned to each category in your syllabus.
- 4Click "Add Category" to include additional grade breakdown components.
- 5Review your weighted average grade, letter grade equivalent, and weight validation summary.
- •Always check your course syllabus to confirm exact category weight percentages.
- •If total weights do not add up to 100%, our calculator automatically calculates your current normalized average.
- •Entering category weights that don't sum to 100% without realizing it - the calculator normalizes the result, but a mistyped weight (e.g., 15% instead of 50% for exams) silently skews the average toward the wrong categories.
