Cookie Policy
Effective date: to be confirmed
This page describes exactly what CalcTower stores in your browser.
What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to store and then sends back to that website with each request. Because cookies travel with requests, they are the technology most often used for sign-in sessions and for tracking.
Local storage is a separate browser feature. Data saved there stays on your device and is never automatically attached to requests. It is typically used to remember interface preferences.
The distinction matters on this site, because CalcTower relies almost entirely on local storage and barely uses cookies at all.
Cookies used on this site
Browsing CalcTower and using the calculators does not set any cookies. There are no analytics cookies and no advertising cookies on this site.
One cookie exists, and it applies only to the site’s private administration area:
calctower_session— set only when an administrator signs in to manage the site. It is HttpOnly (not readable by page scripts), restricted to this site, and expires after the session ends or after a set period. It is strictly necessary for that sign-in to work and is not used for tracking.
Local storage (not cookies)
CalcTower uses your browser’s local storage — a separate mechanism from cookies — to remember a few preferences. Unlike cookies, this data is never attached to requests sent to our server; it stays on your device.
calctower_theme— your light or dark appearance preference.calctower_favorite_tools— calculators you marked as favourites.calctower_recent_tools— calculators you recently opened.
These exist purely so the site remembers your preferences between visits. They contain no identifiers and no calculator inputs.
Why there is no cookie banner
Consent banners exist primarily for non-essential cookies such as analytics and advertising. CalcTower does not use those, so there is nothing to ask you to consent to. If that ever changes, this page will be updated and an appropriate consent mechanism added.
Managing what is stored
You can clear local storage and cookies for this site at any time through your browser’s privacy or “clear site data” settings. Doing so only resets your theme preference, favourites, and recent-tools list.
